Also, being plastic and not real chromed metal, I can already tell they are going to scratch easy if not careful. If you want something that looks like the real thing, then you should get the real thing. That said, standing back from a distance – looks awesome. Walk up and look close, grab them, and you’ll know, “I wish I had the real thing.” Don’t get me wrong, they do look sharp, but they don’t fit perfect (if there is such a thing). Also, being plastic and not real chromed metal, I can already tell they are going to scratch easy if not careful. But hey…if they get too bad looking, pop them off and get a new set.

If you look really carefully you can tell that they are overlays. They don't cover 100% of the black door handle but I've never had anyone notice. They went on easily and securely. I've had the tailgate handle cover, the door handle cover, and the half mirror overlay on my truck for 11 months now and have had NO problems with any of them. At first I worried that only being held on with 3M tape they would come off. The unit was very easy to install. It took me and my brother about 15 minutes to unpack and install it on my fireplace. It made my fireplace and my room look great.

If you are going to buy this fireplace glass door, here are what you need to know
1. First, you need to check if you have a masonry or prefabricated fireplace. This firescreen door is for MASONRY fireplace only.

The Kwikset Smartkey locksets are the simplest way to replace your existing lockset. I recently moved into a new home and have been replacing all of the interior and exterior handlesets. The exterior sets are a snap to replace and the Smartkey feature allows you to re-key the deadbolt and handle to your existing key. It only takes a minute to kake the change. There is no need to pay extra or waiting time for modifying the lockset at the hardware store with Smartkey.

The SmartKey feature attracted me because I would not have to hire a locksmith to rekey the lock, or add locks later that allowed the same key to be used. <br/><br/>Installation wasn't too difficult. This was my first lock install and it took a little less than one hour. The holes and cutouts already existed from the previous lock, so that made it much simpler. The directions aren't extremely clear. However I am an engineer (i.e. mechanically inclined) so I was able to figure out steps that weren't entirely clear. <br/><br/>One thing missing from the internet (through all my searches) was comments by someone who installed this type of lock on a left-hand door. So I took a shot and I installed it on the left hand door leading into my garage. The deadbolt was a breeze, no problems whatsoever. However, the door handle was a little different. The lock is installed "upside down" and the handles are switched. It doesn't affect the function at all. You just put the key in (what I consider) upside down. When rekeying it you'll have to keep in mind that it is upside down. <br/><br/>The locks feel sturdy and well made. Visually they seem to be a slight improvement over the previous set. I have two doors that needed new locks, so I bought only one to see if it installed and worked OK before I purchased the other. I've just ordered the second set. <br/><br/>If I have any trouble with rekeying I will post an update. Otherwise you can assume all is well. <br/><br/>I give it four stars because the directions are poor with half sentence descriptions of each step. If you're mechanically inclined it should be a breeze. <br/><br/>UPDATE: Rekeying worked perfectly. Some people have posted complaints online about the lock failing (i.e. no longer accepts your key). I haven't had that issue. The rekeying directions weren't clear, but I figured out the process. Step 3a says "INSERT KEY FULLY DO NOT ROTATE." Step 3b then directs you to rotate a 1/4 turn. Their directions can be viewed on the kwikset website. I purchased this lockset because I purchased a new home and knew that cleaning ladies, maintenance people, etc. all had a key to the previous lock. The SmartKey feature attracted me because I would not have to hire a locksmith to rekey the lock, or add locks later that allowed the same key to be used.

Installation wasn’t too difficult. This was my first lock install and it took a little less than one hour. The holes and cutouts already existed from the previous lock, so that made it much simpler. The directions aren’t extremely clear. However I am an engineer (i.e. mechanically inclined) so I was able to figure out steps that weren’t entirely clear.

One thing missing from the internet (through all my searches) was comments by someone who installed this type of lock on a left-hand door. So I took a shot and I installed it on the left hand door leading into my garage. The deadbolt was a breeze, no problems whatsoever. However, the door handle was a little different. The lock is installed “upside down” and the handles are switched. It doesn’t affect the function at all. You just put the key in (what I consider) upside down. When rekeying it you’ll have to keep in mind that it is upside down.

The locks feel sturdy and well made. Visually they seem to be a slight improvement over the previous set. I have two doors that needed new locks, so I bought only one to see if it installed and worked OK before I purchased the other. I’ve just ordered the second set.

If I have any trouble with rekeying I will post an update. Otherwise you can assume all is well.

I give it four stars because the directions are poor with half sentence descriptions of each step. If you’re mechanically inclined it should be a breeze.

UPDATE: Rekeying worked perfectly. Some people have posted complaints online about the lock failing (i.e. no longer accepts your key). I haven’t had that issue. The rekeying directions weren’t clear, but I figured out the process. Step 3a says “INSERT KEY FULLY DO NOT ROTATE.” Step 3b then directs you to rotate a 1/4 turn. Their directions can be viewed on the kwikset website. Nonetheless it worked as advertised.
